Främlingsverket

 

School Project. 2nd year (2014).
Development time: 4 weeks.
Engine: Unity 3D.
Theme: Immigration.
Limitation: Web browser-friendly game.

About: There are people with opinions that many of us don't know how to handle. Främlingsverket challenges you to talk to these folks (or rage at them), while also offering you some education on different types of arguments and fallacies, both directed at you and used by you.

My role: Lead design, programming (C#), writing.

What went right: The dialogue "battles" ended up, despite my fear, keeping people curious all through the various branches. The atmosphere of the game is adorable, and the graphics (the toony characters being cats, for starters) keep the serious game lighthearted between the heavier conversations.

What went wrong: My vision was to give the player actual detail and insight into the art of rhetoric, and a learning experience. Sadly, we did not have time to invest properly in writing the final touches on the dialogue we had planned, and the end result is, here and there, more comical than educational. Short version is: Scope.

What I learnt: A lot about programming, and leading a project. And delegating responsibility. Everybody has limits.
