Harken Cabin

School Project. 2nd year (2015).
Development time: 2 weeks.
Engine: Unity 3D.
Limitation: Narrative game
Download: Coming soon.

About: It's a 19th century setting and you wake up in an eerily lit cellar. You make your way through the house in order to find out what happened to you. You encounter notes from a journal, you have flashbacks and visions.

My role: Audio design and implementation, programming (C#)

What went right: The atmosphere. I'm personally pleased with the soundscape I created for this game, and I had a lot fun recording and editing all the various sound effects, from doors creaking and children laughing to steampunk'y ambience and gory operation sounds.

What went wrong: I postponed replacing our placeholder footstep sound for so long that I ended up not having time to replace it (or make it even). This being the one sound you can hear throughout the entire game, the clonking is pretty much a constant nuisance to me.

What I learnt: Horror games, as a genre, are incredibly reliant on ambience, both visual and audible. And it turns out I vastly enjoy sound design.
